Homegrown Laughs Coast-to-Coast: I'm Your Sugar Daddy debuts on YouTube
Toronto born-and-raised comedian Neema Naz puts out his first full length stand-up comedy special: I’m Your Sugar Daddy.
Combining his influences from family, life experiences and his signature impressions and style, this set is a compilation of his best material from the past 7-8 years; but rest assured, for Neema Naz the grind never stops and is already filling up the tank with bigger and better things to come.
Starting his journey into stand up and content creation in 2014, Naz dropped out of university to pursue his creative career full-time, much to the dismay of his Persian immigrant parents, a tale as old as time.
However, with an inscrutable work ethic and drive to make his dreams come true, Naz hit the ground running, immediately creating content for YouTube as well as performing stand-up at open mics.
“You know the [content] material isn’t going to be great at all, because you gotta try new stuff and see what works and what doesn’t.”
Coming up during this period of the internet he says was invaluable to balancing and perfecting both crafts.
“A lot of people get comfortable just doing that [social media] and don’t work on the real-life aspect of the craft” says Naz. “Eventually, these Instagram and TikTok comedians transition over to doing live shows which is a totally different beast – Most of the time they fail and it’s a big reality check [for them].”
All the while he never stopped pumping out content on his YouTube channel, operating with a very “create, create, create.” mentality.
“You know the [content] material isn’t going to be great at all, because you gotta try new stuff and see what works and what doesn’t.” Which is exactly this approach that Naz cites as integral for up-and-coming comics to find their voice.
Never forgetting one's influences and inspiration, Naz credits his use of impressions and general style to hometown hero Russell Peters. Eventually having a great “full circle” moment opening for him last summer.
Never sitting still and always trying to grow and improve, Naz hopes that one day his career be in a spot where he can sell out stadiums as well as acting and producing his own films.
