Coaching While Black to make American Premiere
Gamble Ave Filmworks Rosie award nominated documentary "Coaching While Black" has been selected for the National Black Film Festival in Houston, Texas as well as International Black Film Festival in Nashville, Tennessee. This impactful film, directed and produced by Alex Eskandarkhah explores the back to back ACAC champion NAIT Ooks led by Don “Tex” Phillips, indirectly changing the way hoops was played in Alberta before his eventual dismissal.
The National Black Film Festival will take place August 28th - 31st 2024, while the International Black Film Festival will take place October 2nd - 6th 2024.
Eskandarkhah, the Iranian-Canadian filmmaker, has earned accolades for his work, including nominations for AMPIA awards and a spot on the Directors Guild of Canada Jean-Marc Vallée Discovery Award Long List for 2023. The film previously premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival and Reelworld Film Festival, showcasing its critical relevance in today's dialogue on race and representation in sports.
